Auscultation points

We’ll guide you by indicating which are the auscultation points
where you will have to locate each of the sounds.

Auscultating the heart requires training. Cardiac auscultation is a reliable clinical ability
and a necessary skill that any physician in the first line of assistance to patients must have.

There are five heart auscultation points, which we will see below in detail.

Localización del Foco Aórtico derecho

Aortic Point

It is located on the second right intercostal space. It is also known as 2RICS.

The aortic valve sounds can be heard here.
Localización del Foco Pulmonar

Pulmonary Point

It is located on the second left intercostal space. It is also known as 2LICS.

The pulmonary valve sounds can be heard here.
Localización del Foco Tricúspido

Tricuspid Point

It is located on the xiphoid process.

The tricuspid valve sounds can be heard here.

This is where the contact with the right ventricle (RV) is highest.
Localización del Foco Mitralo Apexiano

Mitral Point

It is also called apical point.

It is located on the fifth intercostal space, on the left midclavicular line. It is also known as 5LICS.

The mitral valve sounds can be heard here. This is where the contact with the left ventricle (LV) is highest.
Localización del Foco Aórtico izquierdo

Erb's Point

It is located under the pulmonary point, on the third left intercostal space. It is also known as 3LICS.

Sounds from the aortic valve can be better heard here, especially the aortic regurgitation murmur.
